During the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25 1950-July 27 1953) to repulse the armed invasion of the US, all the Korean people turned out in the fight against enemies, regarding wartime production and the work of assisting the Korean People’s Army as their lofty duty.
When they were assigned the pressing task to produce hundreds of submachine guns just before the strategic temporary retreat, the armourers of Kunja-ri organized a death-defying corps and assembled them in a matter of six days in a closed tunnel under torchlight.
People in the rear also conducted various forms of wartime emulation drive for increased production including the movement of frontline workteam and the movement of doing the workload of two or three persons, successfully ensuring the material supply for the army.
Farmers dug shelters at the edges of fields and camouflaged cattle to go on with farm work despite the bombardment by enemy planes and warships.
Those in the frontline areas organized joint frontline workteams and those at the coastal areas formed armed working groups to do farm work while fighting against the enemy, and women turned out in the ploughwomen movement in place of their husbands and brothers who joined the army.
Thanks to the movement of donating fund for arms launched by the people, over 1 539 430 000 won of cash, more than 168 420 bags of cereals, at least 33 460 pieces of goods and lots of precious metals were donated as of June 1951, and different military hardware named after woman and Democratic Youth League were sent to the front.
Over 3 000 tons of cereals were presented from across the country until April 1953.
People in the frontline areas including Namgang village and Onjong-ri in Kosong County, Kangwon Province, organized the ammunition transport team, stretcher party, consolation party and other groups and assisted the KPA combatants at the risk of their lives.
Boys and girls also formed the children’s support team and others to transport ammunitions and food to the battlefields.
Such nationwide support imbued the KPA servicemen with great strength and courage and encouraged them to further efforts to destroy the enemy.
