We emerged victorious, led by Kim Il SungIt has been 63 years since we celebrated the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.
V-day reminds me vividly of the unforgettable days of war.
On June 25 1950 the arrogant US started the war of aggression against our country, telling a lie that it would occupy the northern half of Korea within three days.
But it was the Korean army and people who emerged victorious in the war.
Kim Il Sung, outstanding military strategist and iron-willed brilliant commander, totally frustrated the imperialists’ theory of “all-powerful weaponry” with his original strategy and military tactics.
At the outset of the war, I served as the batman of a company and battalion. In November 1952 I became a sniper.
At the time, the enemies did not know the might of snipers and they often gadded about their position freely relying on their “technical superiority”. We crawled on our hands and knees right under the nose of the enemy and shot to death every visible enemy without fail.
One February day in 1953, 25 enemy soldiers were laying mines through knee-deep virgin snow to prevent the attack of our forces. Determined to kill all of them, we snipers watched for a chance when they gathered together before massing our fire upon the enemies to destroy all of them.
Much frightened at the activities of our snipers, the enemies could not move freely in the daytime and they skulked even in the communication trench.
During my eight-month sniper’s activity before the end of the war, I shot to death a total of over 170 American and south Korean soldiers. In recognition of my merits, the government awarded me the title of the DPRK Hero at the age of 20.
New combat forms and methods—especially the movement of anti-aircraft teams, anti-tank teams movement and snipers’ movement—initiated by Supreme Commander Kim Il Sung were all original ones that suited the specific conditions of the country.
Whenever I see the DPRK Hero’s medal shining in my chest, I keenly realize his greatness.
I’m sure that the Korean people will achieve final victory in the showdown with the US as they are led by supreme leader Kim Jong Un who firmly carries forward the great leaders’ exploits of war victory and Songun-based leadership.
