Present on the Chinese side were Wang Jiarui, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and head of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee; Zhang Yesui, executive vice-minister of Foreign Affairs; Song Tao, executive deputy director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office of the CPC; Yin Fanglong, deputy director of the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army; Liu Hongcai, deputy head of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee; Li Jinjun, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK; and other officials.

On the DPRK side were Kim Ki Nam and Kim Yang Gon, secretaries of the WPK Central Committee. Kim Jong Un shook hands with Liu Yunshan and other Chinese officials before talking with them.

Liu Yunshan conveyed to the DPRK leader the best regards and personal letter of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and president of the People’s Republic of China.

Liu expressed thanks to Kim Jong Un for meeting them although he was busy leading the drive to build a thriving nation, and warmly congratulated the WPK Central Committee and its members and the Korean people on the WPK’s 70th anniversary—upon authorization of the CPC Central Committee and General Secretary Xi Jinping.

Under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il, the WPK had steered the Korean people through manifold hardships to achieve national independence and liberate the people, making noticeable achievements in the cause of the Korean socialist revolution and construction, he said.

The Chinese Party, government and people, he noted, are heartened to see the Korean people making significant strides in economic growth, improvement of people’s livelihood and other fields in recent years. He attributed the achievements to the leadership and organizational ability of First Secretary Kim Jong Un, who is committed to the instructions of the preceding leaders, and the WPK’s clarion call.

The CPC delegation is on a mission, he said, to uphold the blood-tied militant friendship between the two Parties, governments and peoples generation after generation and develop bilateral ties of friendship and cooperation onto a higher level in all aspects across political, economic, military, cultural and other fields. It is the steadfast policy of the Chinese Party and government to ensure a steady consolidation of the strategic Sino-DPRK friendship with glorious traditions, he said.

The Chinese Party and government set great store by bilateral ties forged and fostered by the older generations of leaders of the two Parties and countries, he added, and they will work with the Korean counterparts to maintain and bolster up bilateral ties of strategic importance with credit so as to bring benefits to both countries and peoples.

He sincerely wished the Korean people would keep making fresh and bigger success in their efforts to carry out the cause of building a prosperous socialist country under the leadership of the WPK headed by First Secretary Kim Jong Un.

Supreme leader Kim Jong Un extended warm welcome to the Chinese delegation and gave his best regards to the CPC central leadership headed by Xi Jinping and the Chinese people, saying it gives great encouragement to the WPK and the Korean army and people who are working to build a thriving socialist nation that the CPC Central Committee and General Secretary Xi Jinping have sent a Party delegation led by Liu Yunshan to the celebrations of the WPK’s 70th anniversary.

He hoped that the CPC delegation’s trip to the DPRK would mark a significant occasion that positively contributes to inheriting and developing the excellent traditions of the two Parties and two countries.

Bilateral ties are more than neighbourliness and they have been strategic relations based on the traditions of blood-tied friendship, he said, describing bilateral friendship as the greatest exploit and legacy bequeathed by President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il in foreign affairs.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il once stated that the DPRK-China friendship was a historic and strategic option taken by the peoples of the two countries, he said, and he had devoted his heart and soul to boost bilateral ties even in the concluding years of his life.

Traditions should not be confined to history book or textbook, but they should be carried on in practice, he noted, adding that it is the will of the Korean Party and people to further develop traditional ties of friendship down through generations.

He called the bilateral friendship as the common asset of the two countries, and expressed conviction that the invincible vitality of bilateral ties would be more dynamically demonstrated by the concerted efforts of both sides.

He shared views with the Chinese officials over development of bilateral relations and other matters of mutual concern.

The talk proceeded in a friendly and amicable atmosphere throughout.

Liu Yunshan presented a gift to Kim Jong Un, who expressed thanks for that and had a photograph taken with the members of the Chinese delegation.
