“The UN Security Council does not speak a word against the tests of the US and other nations, but only labels the ones conducted by the DPRK for self-defence as ‘illegal’, has long lost the qualifications to question the open and aboveboard self-defensive measure of the DPRK,” a spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry told KCNA on February 15.
The statement came after the UNSC, under the baton of the US, issued a press release on February 13, advocating “additional crucial measure” while branding the DPRK’s rocket test-fire as a “violation of its resolutions”.
No one can pick a quarrel with it as it is a self-defensive measure to reliably guarantee peace in the Korean peninsula and security in the region and a legitimate right of a sovereign state, it said.
Referring to the large-scale joint military exercises the US stages several times every year against the DPRK under the guise of “annual and defensive” ones and the recent successive firings of various kinds of rockets by the US, neighbouring countries and other nations across the world, it said the UNSC only brands the DPRK’s nuclear test and rocket launch as “illegal”.
Reminding the UNSC of the fact that the DPRK already asked the UN Secretariat to hold an international forum to openly discuss the legal ground of the “sanctions resolutions”, it advised the UNSC to see squarely the strategic position of the country that has joined the front rank of the nuclear powers and to know clearly that its self-defensive measure has become a powerful deterrent to the ravages of nuclear war in the Korean peninsula and the region.
