Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, inspected the Samchon Catfish Farm, a world-level large fish farm that has attained the highest levels in Juche-based, scientific, intensive and industrial terms.
He was accompanied by Hwang Pyong So, So Hong Chan, Kim Yong Su and Jo Yong Won.
Enjoying the overall view of the farm, he said it has undergone a sea change so that one cannot remember what it looked like before, describing it as the country’s typical fish farm in the light of scale and modernization of the production lines and as another asset of the country to be handed down to future generations.
He looked round the newly built halls dedicated to education with revolutionary relics and the farm’s history and made the rounds of the sci-tech learning space, general control room, breeding ponds, feed workshop, cold storage chamber and other places to inquire about details of the production and modernization.
The sci-tech learning space has been built in line with the requirements of the age of the knowledge economy, he said, and the establishment of the systems for business resources planning, production management and automatic control based on advanced technologies makes it possible to scientifically simulate various issues arising in production and business operations.
This farm in which two employees monitor 16 large ponds with over 10 000 catfish is a labour-efficient factory intended by the Party, he said.
It seems to him that there are more fish than water in the pond and it is a sight to behold, he said as he saw catfish as big as forearm swarming in each pond. He was more than happy to see piles of fish in the cold storage chamber.
The renovated farm situated in the country’s famous spa area is ideal in raising the tropical fish and has no problem in hot water resources, and it can produce more than 3 000 tons of catfish a year. This is a significant achievement, he said with great satisfaction.
Now that the farm has turned into the model of catfish farming, he noted, it should set itself a higher goal and make efforts to hit it. And he specified tasks to be tackled by the farm.
He gave special thanks to the soldier builders, who have realized Chairman Kim Jong Il’s wish and safeguarded his authority by renovating the farm into an archetype of fish farming and a proud structure of the Songun era, in his capacity as Supreme Commander of the KPA.
