The US Treasury has recently decided to impose extra sanctions on some Iranian companies and their foreign partners.
The decision came after Iran test-fired a medium-range ballistic missile.
Prior to the announcement of the sanctions, the US administration slandered Iran saying it is “playing with fire”, and the former national security adviser to the US president released a statement which asserted Iran’s missile launch was in breach of the UN Security Council’s resolution No. 2231.
The US ambassador to the UN raised a hue and cry, maintaining that it is intolerable.
On the contrary, a spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said that Iran’s ballistic missile programme was not included in the 2015 nuclear deal and therefore its missile tests do not conflict with the deal. Russia also expressed a similar view.
Analysts describe the new anti-Iran sanctions as a revelation of US intention to resort to every possible means to isolate and stifle the country and its wild ambition for world domination.
As a matter of fact, the US is ranked first in the number of missile tests.
Last year alone, it tested PAC-3, a ship-to-air missile, a short-range air-to-air missile to be loaded on F-35 Lightning 2, small-size direct-hit interceptor MHTK and other missiles, arousing concerns among the international community.
The US Navy and a defense contractor conducted a couple of tests on cruise missile Tomahawk Block 4.
After all, it is presumptuous for the US to make a fuss about Iran’s missile tests as part of its defence programme.
Iran is stoutly reacting to the sanctions.
Saying that his country would not be swayed by the US’ threat, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated Iran does not want war but will go on with the build-up of its self-defence capacity. The Foreign Ministry stressed that the government will resolutely cope with any unfair measures aimed at violating the country’s interests.
The Iranian Defence Minister and foreign affairs adviser to the leader of the Islamic revolution defended the missile test and clarified their determination to press ahead with its missile programme undaunted by US threats.
