March 23 is World Meteorological Day.
The World Meteorological Organization has selected “Understanding Clouds” as the theme for this year’s WMD to emphasize the importance of cloud which has a great influence on nature and human life.
It also published a new version of International Cloud Atlas which will greatly be helpful to analysing and confirming various kinds of clouds.
The DPRK has achieved successes in weather forecast and observation by intensifying research on cloud.
The Hydro-meteorological Service shortened the cycle of data transmission from meteorological observation posts across the country and monitors the distribution of cloud and its changes over the whole country in real time.
It developed a forecast support program of all forms of clouds, invented and introduced cloud forecast and observation methods to suit regional and seasonal characters and enhanced the level of cloud observation with the help of satellite and radar and built up the analysing capacity of weather forecasters.
Intensified research on cloud has made it possible to predict weather change across the whole country more correctly and raise the scientific level of meteorological and climate information service for agriculture, fishery and other economic sectors.
An early forecasting system for heavy rain and snow has been established, enabling the country to markedly mitigate the damage caused by calamitous meteorological phenomena.
The meteorologists intensify research on cloud and promote cooperation with the WMO and foreign counterparts.
