After mounting military attacks on Syria and Afghanistan the US is so conceited that it argues the DPRK should not try to test the decision of its president and the strength of its forces.
President Trump, at an Easter holiday event on April 17, told journalists that he would not like to make public beforehand his plan for the DPRK policy and asked them to wait and see what will happen after giving a tedious talk about the failures of his predecessors.
Vice-President Mike Pence also made belligerent remarks in south Korea and Japan.
In south Korea he asserted that Pyongyang should not try to test Trump’s decision related to the nuclear issue and the might of the US forces and all options are on the table over the north Korean issue, saying that in the past two weeks the world might have seen the strength and will of the new US president through what happened in Syria and Afghanistan. In Japan he got aboard the nuclear-powered carrier USS Ronald Reagan and describing the DPRK as the most dangerous threat to peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region, he said the US can make an overwhelming and effective response to any provocation of the DPRK by mobilizing both nuclear and conventional weapons.
It is clear the new US president and his deputy have badly miscalculated.
The DPRK today is not Syria or Afghanistan that have been battered by the US.
Countering hard-line policy with tougher one—this is the DPRK’s mode of response.
It has already declared that it would mete out a devastating punishment mercilessly with the toughest response including nuclear preemptive attack, as a warning to the Trump administration that acts foolishly to ignite the fuse of a nuclear war while bringing strategic strike means to the Korean peninsula.
And through the military parade held in celebration of the 105th birthday of President
Kim Il Sung on April 15 the DPRK displayed modern military hardware, especially a variety of nuclear weapons, which can reduce to ashes in a moment the strongholds of aggression and provocation in any space of ground, air, sea and underwater.
It is really foolish for the US to think the DPRK, which humbled the US that boasted of being the “strongest in the world” with only rifles in the Fatherland Liberation War and exacted a written apology from the US after capturing its armed spy ship Pueblo in the past century, would tolerate its provocation for aggression when it has become a nuclear and rocket power in the East.
If Trump and members of his cabinet want to approach the DPRK with any reason, or save their face at least, they should consider the history of the DPRK-US showdown and reality seriously.
Weighty arguments are being raised even in the US against the reckless DPRK policy of the Trump administration.
Referring to the plan of the new administration for preemptive strike on the DPRK, Perry, former defense secretary who had served the Clinton administration, warned that it (attack at the DPRK) is different from the operation against Syria, saying Act 1 may be pleasant, Act 2 will be very worrisome and Act 3 will be disastrous.
A US Representative expressed his apprehension, saying if a war breaks out in the Korean peninsula, the US should pay dearly for it including heavy casualties and if the president makes a mess of his job, millions of people would be dead.
If the new administration fails to lend an ear to the warning of the DPRK and local public opinion, it will have to fight a real war it has not experienced so far, not in Korea, but in the US mainland.
