Sports games are going ahead at sports facilities in Pyongyang as part of the National Inter-Provincial Games 2017 which started on October 17.
The annual tournament includes five professional events such as football, basketball and volleyball, six non-professional events like volleyball, tennis and taekwon-do, and three amusement games.
Basketball
A men’s basketball competition for professionals is running at the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium.
Eleven teams from Pyongyang and provinces and cities directly under the government will play league matches, divided into two groups, and top two placers from each group are to advance to semifinals.
North Phyongan and Jagang provinces belonging to Group B had a clash on October 18.
The former moved ahead of the latter 14-9 and 37-18 in the first two rounds through fast break and set-play lay-up.
In the third round, Jagang switched over to a man-to-man defence and came from behind by dint of rebound, fast break and long-distance shot, sealing a 48-48 draw.
Both teams unfolded thrilling scoring scenes in the seesaw fourth round.
North Phyongan edged out Jagang 62-57.
In Group A Nampho beat Kangwon Province 65-48, and Pyongyang thrashed Ryanggang Province 99-43.
Volleyball
With women’s volleyball matches running at the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, Jagang Province fought against Kangwon Province on October 18.
Players flaunted their skills by scoring in succession.
Kangwon took the lead from the beginning by applying different tactics including spikes in the positions of right and left forwards by tall players Nos. 1 and 12, blocks and instantaneous hits.
Jagang hit back with light touches and spikes in the back court.
In the match Kangwon saw off Jagang 25-21 and 25-10.
