The US Department of Defense has caused a stir by unveiling a report that says that “putting US combat troops on the ground is the only way to remove north Korea’s nuclear weapons”.
According to the Washington Post, the report was worked out after a US Joint Chiefs of Staff official analysed the consequences of a military conflict between the US and the DPRK at the request of US Representatives. The report suggested that it is crucial to send ground troops in order to check north Korea’s underground bunkers that house nuclear weapons.
The revelation of the US bid for sending combat troops to the DPRK was timed to coincide with the recent largest joint navy drills the US has ever waged with Japan and south Korea against the DPRK in the East Sea of Korea.
The joint navy drills, including a US-Japan one between November 11 and 12 and a US-south Korea one from November 12 to 14, involved three US carrier strike groups, warships of Japan’s Maritime Self-Defence Force, south Korea’s Aegis-class destroyer and many other navy forces.
The US advocated that the drills were the strongest warning message sent to north Korea, describing them as a demonstration of their firm willingness to retaliate and their sound posture towards military response.
Regardless of time and place, warmongering Trump called the 21st-century Hitler made such controversial remarks as “total destruction of north Korea” and “extinction of its population”, flagrantly defamed the DPRK’s supreme leadership that enjoys the absolute support of the Korean people, and vilified its socialist system. Not content with this, he sent a large heap of lethal weapons to the Korean peninsula.
But the Korean army and people do not bat an eye even if the US sends all of its war hardware.
War is more a clash of ideology and will than a fight of physical strength. And it is a law of history that justice prevails over injustice.
American rulers in pursuit of an aggressive hegemonic ambition, and their war mercenaries, can never defeat the Korean service personnel and people who are determined to defend their sovereignty, dignity and territory they regard as their life and soul.
This can be demonstrated by the history of the DPRK-US confrontation: the US suffered an ignominious defeat in the 1950s Korean war, its armed spy ship Pueblo was captured by the Korean People’s Army in 1968 and its large reconnaissance aircraft EC-121 was shot down the following year.
The DPRK’s possession of nuclear weapons is open and aboveboard and it is an inevitable choice for self-defence in reaction to the US’ ever-growing nuclear threat and hostile policy. Gone are the days when the US imposed nuclear blackmail on the DPRK.
The more the US resorts to a reckless military bid against the DPRK, the more it will drive the latter into working towards nuclear buildup and the earlier the US destruction will come.
