At the recent Pyongyang international sci-tech exhibition in the field of furniture and building materials, the products of the Taedonggang Furniture Factory attracted particular interest of visitors.
They include multi-functional wall unit, double bed, clothes-rack, collapsible dining table and others for office, bedroom and kitchen.
It now produces timber in distinctive designs with beautiful patterns and finely processed furniture.
It set up production processes with modern equipment to which CNC technology is applied so that it can process any elaborate shapes and designs with machines.
It also produces precise and good-looking workpieces with less consumption of wood by introducing a mechanical bending production method to replace the old manual processing method of bending workpieces to be used for furniture decoration.
Jo Kum Chon, head of the technical office, and his colleagues buckled down to a project to lighten the product in line with the current trend.
As a result, they succeeded in introducing honeycomb-style tissue papers made of pulp materials into the production of hollow boards, a main material for furniture production, to ensure their intensity while saving much wood.
The factory also focused on the development of new products.
Technicians undertook another project to make once imported coating materials and finally developed a coating material which smells less strong and ensures thickness in painting furniture.
And they developed new designs of quality furniture such as modular wall unit, chair and bed, which cost less, are convenient to use and can be folded if necessary.
The wall unit won the technical prize in the recent sci-tech show.
