South Korean defence minister Song Yong Mu spat out confrontational remarks.
After arguing for “intensified combined defence posture” at the “south Korea-US defence ministers talks”, he said at a recent meeting in Singapore that “if the north uses nukes it will be erased from the map”.
Such remarks that came as the north-south relationship is moving toward detente and developing well are ill-intentioned ones designed to spoil the hard-won atmosphere favourable for inter-Korean fence-mending, toeing the US line of anti-DPRK hostility.
He showed ill-advised bravery by trying to assume that the DPRK uses nuclear weapons against the US and south Korea, but it has already been well known from where the dark cloud of nuclear war comes to the Korean peninsula and what is the root cause.
The DPRK built a self-defensive war deterrent which can reduce the US to ashes to counter the US nuclear threat and, therefore, if the US draws back its hostile policy and stops threatening the DPRK with nukes, it would never level its nukes at the US.
However, the US made it a policy, in its “nuclear posture review", to launch a nuclear preemptive strike on the enemy if they attack it with either nuclear or conventional weapons.
If he is not blind, Song would have known this stark reality, but he pretends ignorance and incites sanctions and pressure against the fellow countrymen by describing the DPRK as a nuclear war provoker, which proves that he is a foolish servant of the US.
No one knows what kinds of disaster would befall on the Korean nation, as long as such a US’ minion remains at the top post of the south Korean military.
South Korean foreign minister Kang Kyong Hwa also trumpeted “simultaneous pursuit of sanctions and pressure against the north and dialogue” and strong reaction of the “international community to the north’s provocation” at Vancouver foreign ministers meeting and the Davos Forum. But they are all unfeasible and will only leave south Korea in a predicament.
Song Yong Mu, Kang Kyong Hwa and other confrontation maniacs had better ponder on the consequences to be entailed by their reckless behaviour.
