A meeting took place at the Central Youth Hall in Pyongyang on February 12 to mark the 30th anniversary of the naming of the immortal flower of Kimjongilia.
It was attended by Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly, Kim Chang Do, chairman of the Korea Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Committee, officials of the Cabinet, working people’s organizations, ministries and national agencies and the personnel of the units participating in the 22nd Kimjongilia Festival and citizens.
Vice-Premier Jon Kwang Ho, chairman of the Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Festival Organizing Committee, addressed the meeting.
He said that Kimjongilia was born in reflection of the aspirations of the 1980s when the local and world peoples extolled Chariman Kim Jong Il for having ushered in a new era of independence with his outstanding ideas and theories and gigantic practice, and that the flower has been in full bloom backed by the immense loyalty of the Korean people to him.
Since the first Kimjongilia exhibition was held in the trying period of the 1990s, the Kimjongilia festival has opened on the occasion of the Day of the Shining Star every year, he said, referring to the establishment of a well-knit system of training technical personnel for the cultivation and dissemination of the flower and a large number of Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia greenhouses throughout the country, which constitute solid material and technical foundations for widely growing the immortal flowers of the Sun in any natural and climatic conditions.
Kimjongilia has widely been spread across the world, he said, adding that it was officially registered as a new variety of begonia family by the International Society for Horticultural Science in 2004 to be recognized as a world famous flower, winning top prizes at world horticultural expos and flower shows.
He called on the participants to step up the revolutionary general offensive to achieve fresh victory on all fronts of building a powerful socialist country with the pride and honour of having Kimjongilia as a celebrated flower of the times and national treasure.
