Korean Children

The Korean Children’s Union (KCU) has a history of over 70 years.

In those days KCU members have grown up to be reliable pillars of the country under the warm love and blessings of the great leaders

Blessings of Love

A joint meeting of children’s organizations in Pyongyang for the founding of the KCU was held on June 6, Juche 35 (1946).

Busy as he was with leading the building of a new country, President

Kim Il Sung

attended the meeting.

Waving back to the cheering schoolchildren, he earnestly asked them to shoulder the future of the country with joy of new Korea. And he hoped that they would become heroes in building a new democratic Korea by growing healthily and studying hard as befits the priceless treasures and masters of new Korea.

He mentioned the word “new Korea” several times with great expectation of and belief in them.

Picturing in his mind the future of Korea where KCU members would become the masters of the country, he feasted his eyes on the participants in the meeting with a beaming smile on his face.

Under his warm care, the KCU, a political organization of Korean children, was founded the next year after Korea’s liberation on August 15, 1945.

 

The General Goes to the Front and the Children Go to the Camp!


In 1993 the US and south Korean armies committed huge troops and latest military hardware to the largest-ever joint war exercises, codenamed Team Spirit 93, and the allied imperialist forces kicked up a “nuclear inspection” racket against the DPRK, driving the situation to the brink of war on the Korean peninsula.

At this juncture, General
Kim Jong Il
summoned some officials to his office and told them that he wanted to visit the renovated Songdowon International Children’s Camp.

A war and a children’s camp—the two words made a striking contrast with each other.

The officials were surprised to see the General in perfect composure under such a grave situation when all the young people across the country vied with one another to join or rejoin the Korean People’s Army (KPA) against the enemies’ reckless aggressive manoeuvres.

Touring different places of the camp for hours, the General said to his suite that the diving board in the bathing resort should be re-set up to go well with its surrounding buildings and gave instructions on some problems concerning the supply of campers with ice creams on a regular basis as well as the camping of foreign children.

That evening he spoke highly of the fact that the camp was laid out splendidly and proposed that children in frontline villages go camping first ahead of others, adding that they would feel very happy with their camping.

As a result, the scene of the General on his inspection trip to frontline posts and the children going camping by bus was unfolded, touching people to the heart.

A writer, who was told of this story, produced a lyric The General and the Children to hand down to posterity the General’s ennobling love for the rising generation. Later, the song began to reverberate through the country.

 

Great Ambition

Kim Jong Un
attended the Joint National Meeting of the KCU organizations in celebration of its 66th founding anniversary on June 6, 2012. He delivered a speech in congratulation of KCU members across the country and, that afternoon, enjoyed a concert together with its attendance.

Though he had spent the whole day with the children, he felt somewhat reluctant to say good-bye to them and called several delegates.

Looking at them one by one who rushed to him in a transport of joy, he asked a boy from Janggang County what he would become in the future.

The boy replied that he would join the People’s Army and serve as an officer all his life. Casting a pleased look at him, the Supreme Leader recommended senior officers of the KPA to have a photograph taken with the boy, adding that the boy would become a comrade-in-arms of the Supreme Commander if he joins the army as he has just made a resolve.

Indeed, not only the boy but all the KCU members across the country had the greatest glory and pride of being blessed by the Supreme Leader.

Millions of KCU members, including 20 000 delegates to the celebration event, made a firm determination to follow the road of the revolution under his leadership.
