The whole life of Fidel Castro Ruz, who was born in Oriente Province of Cuba on August 13 1926, was that of devotion to the country and people.
Fidel lit the torch of armed struggle with the raid on the Moncada fortress, a point of military importance of the Batista dictatorship in Santiago de Cuba, with more than a hundred youths and students in July 1953.
In January 1959 the Cuban revolutionaries overthrew the Batista dictatorship and established a revolutionary government led by Fidel Castro Ruz in February for the first time in the country’s history.
He worked as first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, president of the Council of State and president of the Council of Ministers of Cuba with the absolute support of the local people.
He established the first socialist system in the Western Hemisphere where people are the masters of the country and their destiny and devoted his all to the country’s prosperity, people’s happiness and the accomplishment of the cause of anti-imperialism and independence.
Under his leadership the Cuban government and people firmly defended the country’s sovereignty and dignity and the gains of the revolution as well, making remarkable achievements in various fields of social life.
Cuba became the first country with no illiterates in Latin America and made marked progress in science, art and literature, sports and other fields.
Fidel visited the DPRK in March 1986 to meet President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il and made great efforts to bolster up militant ties of friendship and cooperation between the peoples of the two countries.
The close friend and old revolutionary comrade-in-arms of the Korean people was awarded the title of DPRK Hero and other DPRK orders.
The peoples of the two countries recall with deep emotion the noble revolutionary career of the Cuban leader who left an indelible mark in history on the occasion of his 92nd birth anniversary.
