Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- The spirit of independent national reunification that calls on the north and the south to become masters in building a bright future of the Korean nation is getting evermore stronger on the Korean Peninsula as the days go by.

This momentous reality would have been unthinkable without the immortal feats and dedication of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il who laid a firm foundation for independent reunification, peace and prosperity of Korea.

Since the very day of national division forced by outsiders, the President raised the great national unity as the mainstay for national reunification and convened the historic Joint Conference of Representatives of Political Parties and Social Organizations in North and South Korea in April Juche 37 (1948).

Saying that the great gift he could make to the fellow countrymen is the reunification of the country, he put forward the Three Principles of National Reunification--independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity--, the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo (DFRK) and the 10-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country to provide the most reasonable and fair guidelines for achieving the reunification in keeping with the specific conditions of Korea and the aspiration and desire of the nation.

During the last days of his great life, he initiated the north-south summit and worked heart and soul for its realization. And he left his last autograph on a document related to the national reunification on July 7, 1994.

True to the behest of the President, Chairman Kim Jong Il devoted his all to putting an end to the tragedy of national division to the last moments of his life.

He formulated the Three Principles of National Reunification, the proposal for founding the DFRK and the 10-point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation as the three charters for national reunification to be always held fast to by the Korean nation and authored immortal works including "Let Us Reunify the Country Independently and Peacefully through the Great Unity of the Entire Nation" to arouse all the fellow countrymen to the struggle for accomplishing the cause of reunification.

The undying feats of peerlessly great men who devoted their all to the independent reunification, peace and prosperity of Korea are shining brilliant thanks to the wise guidance of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

Amid a series of historic national events like the three rounds of north-south summits and the adoption of the historic Panmunjom declaration and the "September Pyongyang Joint Declaration" this year, the national cause of reunification is entering a new stage of its development under his outstanding leadership.

With the opening of a fresh heyday of independent reunification, the Korean nation visualizes the bright future of the cause of reunification. -0-
