The international community is hoping that the trend of the situation of the Korean peninsula which took a good step forward would result in durable peace.
In order to establish a permanent and durable peace mechanism on the peninsula, all military acts of irritating the opposite party should be halted.
Escalating military tensions can never help dispel even an iota of misunderstanding, to say nothing of restore of peace.
The situation of the Korean peninsula is the epitome of situation of the world politics.
The peninsula is located at the center of the Northeast Asian region where big powers are neighboring with each other so that escalation of tensions on the peninsula under a temporary armistice is bound to lead to worldwide instability and the ignition of the Third World War.
So, the historic Singapore DPRK-US summit and talks discussed the matter of suspending the US-south Korea joint military drills during the goodwill dialogue between the DPRK and the US in order to establish a permanent and durable peace mechanism on the Korean peninsula.
And the north and the south at the Pyongyang inter-Korean summit talks committed themselves to leading the termination of the military hostility in the area of confrontation including the demilitarized zone to substantial removal of the danger of war on the whole Korean peninsula, and specified it as a priority in the September Pyongyang Joint Declaration.
This served as a formal recognition by the dialogue partners that the issue of stopping all military acts is of great significance in preserving peace and security of the Korean peninsula, the region and the world.
Once a physical threat is created on the Korean peninsula where negotiations are underway, the hard-won atmosphere of dialogue will be broken and everything brought back to its original state.
The issue of the war drills is the touchstone to distinguish between peace and confrontation.
The world is closely following the present situation of the Korean peninsula and the prospect of its development with keen interest.
