Time Will Awaken U.S. to Its Absurdity

Pyongyang, December 13 (KCNA) -- A commentary titled "Time Will Awaken U.S. to its Absurdity" written by Jong Hyon was issued on Thursday.
It says:

Presidential assistants at the White House, the secretary of State, the secretary of Defense, the secretary of Treasury and congressmen are all crying out for escalating "sanctions" and "pressure" upon the DPRK. It seems that they think "sanctions-pressure" represents everything and serves as a sorcerer's key to solving all knotty problems.

At press conferences and international meetings they claim that sanctions can be lifted only when a progress is seen in north Korea's denuclearization and unheard-of diplomatic and economic pressure will be kept for denuclearization. They are telling other countries that the U.S. will not drop the whip to the last.

Not ridding itself of obstinacy and prejudice, the U.S. often repeats the words that do not work on the dialogue partner. It would be well-advised to look at its appearance reflected on the eyes of the world people.

The DPRK drags the U.S. and the international community pushes the latter from behind, but the U.S. still refuses to get rid of the mire.

The DPRK-U.S. negotiations are at stalemate.

The international community is disappointed at the stalemate.

Who is to blame for it? Needless to say, the blame rests with the U.S.

The DPRK moves, but the U.S. does not move even an inch. How can the two countries sit together at the negotiating table under the situation?

The measures taken by the DPRK for the denuclearization are ample enough for the U.S. to raise cheers with a breath of relief.

Nevertheless, the U.S. still claims north Korea has done nothing and that denuclearization process has not kicked off, yet.

Last year tens of millions of Americans suffered from a horrible nightmare of nuclear disaster every night and bustled around in despair after mistaking a meteor from the nocturnal sky for a ballistic missile from north Korea. But they sleep in peace now. This is a stark reality.

The remains of GIs that had been left buried in this land for nearly 70 years were sent to their families in the wake of a step taken by the DPRK with good faith. This is not an illusion but a fact.

However, the U.S. said it was so vexed because north Korea did nothing even though it did a lot of things and that there should be north Korea's "corresponding measure" for the lift of sanctions. It went the lengths of talking about the "dual ways" invented by others.

The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations was so arrogant as to say that the U.S. gave too many carrots to the DPRK although the latter does nothing.

Days ago, a high-ranking official of the U.S. said that the U.S. would not demand a declaration on nuke as a precondition for the second round of DPRK-U.S. summit talks, which he described as a big concession to the DPRK.

As far as the declaration is concerned, it means just urging the DPRK to specify the coordinates for strike by itself. The U.S. withdrew it by itself after understanding its unreasonable and impudent nature. So, this can not be a carrot given to the DPRK.

The U.S. is misleading the public by claiming that the DPRK-U.S. summit meeting and high-level talks are a big favor granted to the DPRK. It is just the height of shamelessness.

It is just the U.S. which is much indebted to the DPRK. The ball is now in the U.S. court.

The U.S. is obliged to pay off its debts and it is the common sense that if there is a ball in its court, it should kick the ball. The U.S. acts like the thief crying "Stop thief!" Is this the morality advocated by American gentlemen?

A high-ranking official of the U.S. side had amicable negotiations with the DPRK side, but back home he talked about a "rogue state" and "maximum pressure." Later he visited the DPRK again to shake hands with a smile. He is a brazen-faced guy, indeed.

He, styling himself a high-ranking politician, is whitewashing the U.S. outrages, saying that the "patience is no longer virtue and the U.S. dashes towards the last moment of patience."

As seen above, the prospect of the DPRK-U.S. relations depends on when the U.S. is awakened from its foolish thought.

A way out for the U.S. is to take measures responding to those taken by the DPRK step by step to get rid of stagnation.

A precondition for it is to understand as soon as possible the absurdity of its persistent sanctions and pressure.

The Korean people who armed themselves with the spirit of self-reliance and mettle of self-sufficiency in the face of decades-long sanctions only ridicule the U.S. "conviction" that more pressure upon the DPRK will bring it to its knees.

Yet, the U.S. Department of State asserts that "it will not follow in the past administration's footsteps and to this end it will keep economic sanctions until the DPRK is denuclearized".

The present U.S. administration's persistent sanctions and pressure upon the DPRK have something in common with those of "strategic patience" advocated by the former master of the White House Obama and this is enough to make people think that the 3rd Obama regime came to power.

There are limits in lying.

The DPRK hopes that the U.S. will reach the place where the DPRK has already reached. In explicit words, the DPRK is waiting with patience to see the U.S. abandon a wrong way of thinking and come to its own senses.

Having honored its commitment and outpaced the U.S. after leaving the starting line together, the DPRK has something to say to the U.S.: "A cart never moves by the rotation of just one wheel."

The U.S. would be well-advised to be mindful that the sanctions and pressure are a foolish act of throwing a hurdle in its own way, stop talking nonsense and join the DPRK in the efforts for the improved DPRK-U.S. relations. It should not put pressure on the DPRK but use it for keeping the relations from going back to the original state.

The U.S. persistent sanctions and pressure on the DPRK go to only prove how stupid and ignorant the U.S. is.

If officials of the U.S. administration truly want to improve the DPRK-U.S. relations and have a little bit insight, they may have a foreboding that the day will come when they should remove the barrier it built.

It would be beneficial to the U.S. to stop resorting to the outdated club of pressure, though belatedly, and adopt a flexible way of thinking not to suffer from the trouble caused by it.

As one can not make a fire underwater, the improvement of the DPRK-U.S. relations is incompatible with sanctions and pressure.

Time will awaken the U.S. to its absurdity with the passage of time.
